A great effort of our partner Don Bosco High School in Maridi, South Sudan, is to support the education of girls, which is still considered something extra in this part of the world. A Salesian priest, Father Charles Taban, who himself comes from South Sudan and is the director of this high school, is working hard to improve the position of girls and women. One of the ways how to reach this goal is better access to education. Until recently, the problem was their frequent skipping of school, due to the unavailability of hygiene supplies, which was very much reflected in their school results. Father Taban also invited Salesian sisters, who were involved in the education of girls, to cooperate in this area. Since the school provided recyclable hygiene supplies, absences have fallen to a minimum. On top of that, Father Taban is also seeking to involve girls in sports activities, while a girls’ football team was also created at the school.

We are very pleased that the school, which is regularly supported by Slovak donors through the Adoption Programme of School Classed in South Sudan, provides accessible and high-quality education, which is a fundamental right and the main precondition for protecting children and empowering girls in particular.

If you wish to support education at Don Bosco High School in Maridi, you can join our Adoption Programme of School Classed in South Sudan with a regular monthly contribution of 35, 50, or 100 EUR to directly contribute to this Salesian missionary school. Thanks!
