    FAQ

Fill in the form in the section I want to take part in the programme and we will contact you within 48 hours with further information necessary for conclusion of an adoption contract. The contract is concluded for at least one year in order to plan resources for Bosco Boys more efficiently. The participation in the programme Adoption of children in Kenya supports creation of suitable educational environment where children can grow up and develop, surrounded by feeling of love and care.

The regular monthly contribution to support an adopted boy is 33 euro. This sum covers average expenses spent on a child. The contribution can be sent monthly, quarterly, once or twice a year. We are not able to cumulate partial contributions from different people. The subjects interested, either groups or communities are invited to agree on their common action and contribute under one name. If you like our programme Adoption of children in Kenya, but you cannot afford sending 33 euro on regular monthly basis, you can support our activities by a single donation or a regular donation of a smaller amount of money. Each donation helps!

In the Bosco Boys centre, boys are provided with accommodation, food three times a day, necessary clothes and health care. Your contribution will be used to purchase school supplies, uniform and fees. In the Bosco Boys centre, children are engaged into various free-time activities. There is a regular contact between us and the Bosco Boys centre, together with the control of entrusted funds.

From each contribution, we spend 15% on fees related to administration of the Adoption of children in Kenya programme. This means that from each 33 euro coming to our bank account, we spend 4.95 euro on communication with partner organizations, getting information about our boys, charges for bank transfers, communication with donors (sending letters, e-newsletters, photographs), acquiring new donors, bookkeeping, and updating the website. The rest, 28.05 euro is sent to the Bosco Boys centre where your child is placed.

We appreciate your support much and accept potential end of your support. However, there are problems connected with such withdrawal, which is why we expect loyalty from our donors. In case any donor decides to end support, he/she must inform us at least a month in advance, so that we are able to find an alternative donor.

You can adopt a boy anytime. The period of support is set to at least a year so that we are able to plan resources for the Bosco Boys centre more efficiently. You can start supporting a boy immediately after the agreement on adoption of a child is concluded.

The lists of boys are updated twice a year. Sometimes, the boy assigned to you escapes, returns back to his family, finish his compulsory education or dies (unfortunately, this also happens from time to time). Donors are informed about such situations and offered to adopt another boy.

By signing the agreement, we are authorized to use your contact data in order to communicate with you within the programme Adoption of children and inform you about other activities through our regular e-newsletter. We will be in touch with you when concluding the agreement, updating it, changing boys and communicating with them. We will also send you “News from Salesian missions” quarterly by regular mail.

Usually, children write letters once or twice a year. Similarly, we invite our donors to write letters to children twice a year – the letters are sent together to the Bosco Boys centre. You can send letters or postcards in English, in block letters.

We do not send tangible gifts as it could encourage jealousy and bad feelings among children.

We are not able to provide journeys of donors to the Bosco Boys centre. Furthermore, such visits could encourage jealousy and bad feelings among children.

In Kenya, school years start in January and end in November. They are made of three-months periods, so-called trimesters, each of which is followed by a month of holidays. The boys living at the Bosco Boys centre spend their holidays with families or relatives if possible, though there are always some who stay in the centre. In August and in November, there are camps organized for children, attended also by children from other schools. Primary education in Kenya lasts eight years. In the end, pupils take national final examination. Then, they are awarded certificates about finished primary education. Based on their results at final examinations, children continue their studies at secondary schools.
