The project was prepared in cooperation with the St. Elizabeth University of Health and Social Sciences. Its main objective was to purchase a mobile ambulance and its equipment (devices, stretchers, remedies, medical supplies), vaccines, refrigerators to store vaccines and remedies, and to support operations and maintenance of the mobile ambulance. The vehicle was purchased in 2008.
In the course of the project, interventions of mobile ambulance were conducted, within each of the four villages in the Gumbo-Juba region. Thus, physicians were able to visit 600-800 families whose members were in the need of medical treatments. The achieved results of the project include: lower rate of infant mortality, improved health of mothers and provision of adequate healthcare to patients suffering from HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases. The mobile ambulance has been still active in the region.
The project was supported by budgetary resources of the Slovak Republic through SlovakAid, the official programme of development assistance, by the sum of 109,680 euro.
