Overall objective of this project is to contribute to decrease of female unemployment in Marsabit region. Project wants to reach this objective by opening new courses of practical skills for women in Marsabit town such as tailoring, hairdressing and beauty course. Desired impact is a decrease of unemployment rate in the region and empowerment of women.
The first specific objective is to increase possibilities of women to integrate at labour market. Assumption for accomplishing this goal is obtaining practical skills by aim group of young unemployed women.
The project took place in Don Bosco Marsabit Technical Institute in Marsabit town. In the past, the institute has provided technical education mostly to men. The project extended its scope to new courses for women. In order to increase chances of students to find a job, the project provided graduates with meetings with potential employers, entrepreneurial skills training, start-up packages for self-employment and follow-up. The second part of the project was focused on improving quality of education through qualification courses for teachers. A certified course on technical training enhanced the quality of the teaching process, a mediation skills course helped to bring young people from different ethnic groups closer to each other in order to ensure peaceful coexistence of Marsabit residents.
The project started on 1st November 2016 and finished on 31st October 2018. It was financed by SlovakAid with 226 150 eur.
