  • 2012Camps for Roma children

The third edition of camps on daily basis for children from Roma settlements was carried out in the second week of July. It had been preceded by a four days long formation of 17 volunteers under the supervision of Peter Kuchár, SDB in Tatranská Lomnica. Besides the event programme preparation, design of activities and games, the formation included lectures on missionary volunteering, Roma history and culture, and a trip to Skalnaté Pleso.

After the formation, the volunteers directly travelled to Terňa and Malý Slivník in the district of Prešov and to Plavecký Štvrtok in the district of Malacky. There, they spent five days with children, full of various activities, games, creative workshops, and also spiritual activities. The camps meant valuable diversification of summer days for Roma children; their honesty, spontaneity and gratitude were satisfying enough for the volunteers. The project was run thanks to a kind support of the Renovabis Foundation.
